Space School summer school

For every student selected for space camp, a further two are offered a place at a residential summer school hosted by the University of Strathclyde.

The week-long summer school is supported by NASA astronauts and scientists, and has two themes, electronics and life sciences. Glasgow University delivered the latter component of the programme.

Following registration and induction, the 100 students headed off for an outward bound weekend at Loch Eil. Here they faced a series of demanding mental and physical challenges which aimed to develop team building skills. Returning late on Sunday evening the students checked in to the halls of residence that was to be their home for the next five days.

The summer school programme is mix of lectures, workshops and assignments on the two key themes. It is led by university staff, with additional input from some of NASA’s leading scientists and engineers. There is also a full programme of organised social activities on campus in the evenings, and the whole summer school experience gives students a full flavour of university life.
