WorkNet

What is it?

The WorkNet Model of Career Planning and Employability will help you understand the workplace. It aims to help you if you are having difficulty finding and keeping a job, training place or college course.

There are four main elements within the WorkNet programme:

The programme starts by helping you

  • to decide what is important in your life and what motivates you to work
  • to find solutions to any barriers which are making it difficult for you to apply to or cope with employment, training or further education

Next, the programme helps you to consider your needs, requirements and strengths, so you can choose a career to suit your own goals.

Once you have identified your career goal, you will be supported to seek the right opportunity to move you towards it. You do this by working back from your goal to find the best starting point for you.

You also find out about the workplace so you can understand what employers want and how businesses function.

There are lots of different ways of contacting employers and trainers, so it is important to find the right one for you. The Job Search element helps you to identify where the jobs are and the best way to approach employers.

But the programme doesn’t stop there. It provides ongoing support to help you deal with anything that might make it difficult for you to stick to your plan.

It also offers you support to gain skills, self esteem and confidence within the workplace, training centre or college.
