National standards for Enterprise in Education

Careers Scotland aims to ensure the quality and consistency of projects delivered or supported by applying the following standards

  • All activities, where appropriate, will be delivered in partnership with business and the community
  • Trained and professional Careers Scotland staff will support all activities.
  • Levels of support from Careers Scotland staff will be consistent across Scotland and will be supported in the context of partnership agreements
  • Activities will address inclusion and equal opportunities issues.
  • Careers Scotland will seek to embed appropriate activities into the curriculum.
  • Evaluation will be a planned element of every activity.
  • Performance indicators will be set for each activity and monitored to ensure expected outcomes are achieved
  • All activities will contribute towards the achievement of Careers Scotland's targets as set by the Scottish Government.
  • All activities will support the National Priorities for Education, Smart Successful Scotland, and the National Enterprise Campaign - Enterprise Insight.

Careers Scotland staff should use this document when negotiating partnership agreements with schools.

Prior to negotiations taking place Careers Scotland will be aware of certain limiting factors, such as budgets and staff resources. Within each region decisions must be made on funding allocation for the various activities and the levels of staff resources to be made available.

Partnership agreements need not include ALL of the activities mentioned throughout the document. When negotiating agreements with local authorities and schools about which products and services are most appropriate, the emphasis should be upon the nationally approved activities. The templates are intended only as a guide and further information may be obtained from Careers Scotland staff.

The objectives for Enterprise in Education within the Operating Plan of Careers Scotland have been shaped by the National Priorities for Education and Smart Successful Scotland.
