National partners in education and learning

At a national level, we work with a broad spectrum of partners within Education and Learning.

In addition to schools and colleges, we engage with a range of other organisations involved in promoting Education and Learning to a shared client group.


Determined to Succeed
Determined to Succeed is the Scottish Government's strategy for enterprise in education with the aim of helping Scotland's young people develop self-confidence, self-belief and the determination to succeed in life and work.

Individual Learning Accounts
ILA Scotland is a scheme which helps you pay for learning that you can do at a time, place, pace and in a way to suit you.

It can be used with a wide range of learning providers - from learning centres, local colleges, universities to private training companies.

learndirect scotland
learndirect scotland hosts a national data base of opportunities to help individuals find the learning they need whether this be in a classroom, in a learning centre, at work or at home.

Learning and Teaching Scotland
LT Scotland is a national public body which provides guidance and support for teachers, school managers, local authorities, parents and others involved in education in Scotland.

National Grid for Learning
The National Grid for Learning (NGfL) is a major Government initiative designed to secure the benefits of advanced networked information technologies for all sectors of education and lifelong learning. LT Scotland manages the NGfL initiative.

Scottish Further Education Funding Council
The Council provides financial support for teaching, and associated activities for Scottish further education colleges.

Scottish Further Education Unit
SFEU is the key development agency for Scotland’s colleges. In undertaking this primary role in a sector where there were nearly 500,000 enrolments in 2002/2003, SFEU contributes to the work of a wide range of national committees and delivers a range of high quality services which promote and support changes in Scotland’s colleges.

Scottish Higher Education Funding Council
The Scottish Higher Education Funding Council (SHEFC) distributes more than £700 million each year to higher education institutions in Scotland to provide support for teaching, research and associated activities.

Scottish Qualifications Authority
SQA is the national body in Scotland responsible for the development, accreditation, assessment and certification of qualifications other than degrees.

Students Awards Agency for Scotland
SAAS deals with financial support and gives advice to eligible Scottish students in higher education throughout the United Kingdom, together with related roles in connection with student loans, hardship funds and educational endowments.

Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS)
UCAS is the central organisation that processes applications for full-time undergraduate courses at UK universities and colleges.
