Working with young Asylum Seekers

  • Do you work with young asylum seekers?
  • Are you clear about what happens when they leave school?
  • Do you know what their educational rights are?

The Transition Project for Young Asylum Seekers1 has produced resources to assist you to support and inform young asylum seekers of their options and choices when they leave secondary school:

In December 2007 the Scottish Government introduced legislation to give children of asylum seekers, who meet certain eligibility criteria, the same access to further and higher education as Scottish children.

You can download a copy of the 'Information for Professionals' pack which contains an updated insert to take the new legislation into account.

1 A partnership between Careers Scotland and Glasgow City Council funded through ESF Equal ATLAS (July 05 – December 07).
