Biomass Development Officer
Introduction
Biomass Development Officers are responsible for developing biomass projects. This involves generating energy from organic materials such as wood, grasses, plants and animal wastes. Biomass can be burned for heating buildings directly and boilers can also be connected to electricity generation equipment.
Work Activities
Biomass Development Officers are responsible for managing the development of Biomass plants. This can be from initial identification of potential sites to the day to day management of an operational site.
As a Biomass Development Officer you are likely to:
- Identify potential sites for new biomass projects
- Evaluate new biomass projects
- Carry out economic analysis and risk management studies
- Work with other scientists to conduct relevant scientific research
Work with external consultants and internal specialist support - Work with public authorities to ensure planning consents and licences are agreed
- Work closely with other organisations to ensure supply of raw materials
- Manage the day to day running of a biomass plant

Pay and Opportunities
Biomass Development Officers can earn between £28,000-£40,000 annual salary
