Career development loans

Browse by Occupation Areas

If you are 18 or over and unable to get funding from the normal sources you may want to try a Career Development Loan (CDL). This is a bank loan to help you pay for work related education or learning. Your repayments are postponed until after you finish the course.

You can borrow anything between £300 and £8,000 to help you pay for up to two years of learning plus up to one year’s work experience if this is part of the course. The loan can be used to cover up to 80 per cent of your course fees plus any related expenses. If you have been out of work for three months or more when you apply, you may be eligible for a CDL to cover 100 per cent of your course fees.
