College bursaries - who is eligible?
To be eligible for a bursary the course you wish to study must be:
- Full time – that is a course that means you attend College for at least twenty one hours per week for at least eighteen continuous term weeks.
- Validated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) or other recognised awarding body if SQA validation is not available.
Bursaries are paid in instalments. Payment depends on your satisfactory attendance, progress and conduct during the course.
Apply as soon as you have been offered a place, even if it is conditional on exam results. Most colleges will post out bursary application forms to people who have accepted a place on a course.
What your Bursary award may cover
- course fees
- living costs (this part will be means tested)
- travel (must live two miles plus from your place of study)
- certain other course expenses.
Note: Are you applying for a course outwith Scotland or for a performing arts course run by an institution other than a recognised Scottish Further Education College?
Then contact your local council's education department, bursaries section for information. Bursary awards for these courses are at the discretion of the local council. See the COSLA website for contact details of all Scotland's local authorities.
