Student loans

For most students the main way of meeting their living costs whilst studying will be through the student loan. You can apply to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for this means tested loan as soon as you have received an unconditional acceptance. Repayments do not begin until after your course is completed and you are earning in excess of £15,000 per year.

The amount of loan you can get depends on:

What course you are taking
Where you live while studying
Your family income

The loan covers 52 weeks from the first day of your course. The maximum amount for courses that last for 30 weeks is £4,300 if you are living away from home and studying outside London.
