Supplementary grants

Supplementary Grants are non-repayable and available for those students who have additional financial needs. All supplementary grants are income assessed and should be claimed when you are completing your SAAS application form. Visit the the SAAS website for more details.

Care Leavers Grant

Students leaving care may be entitled to extra help during the summer holidays. This grant is not repayable.

Dependants' Grant

Dependants' grant can be claimed if you have legal responsibility for your husband or wife, or a civil partner if you have entered a civil partnership agreement. You cannot claim this grant for another student or for children.

Lone Parents’ Grant

This grant can be claimed if you are single, widowed, separated or divorced and are bringing up children on your own.

Childcare Grant for Lone Parents’

This is an extra grant for students receiving the Lone Parents’ Grant, which is a contribution towards the cost of "formal" childcare.

Travelling Expenses

You may be able to claim a contribution towards the cost of daily travel to your college or university. If you study away from home, SAAS may also pay the cost of travel between your home and term time address at the start and end of each term (i.e. maximum of three return journeys a year). There is a maximum amount payable to eligible students.
