About The Path is Green

Climate change has been called one of the biggest challenges to ever face humanity and is affecting the way we live and also the way we work.

In Scotland, the efforts to utilise our country’s abundant natural resources of wind and water and to develop initiatives that help conserve and sustain the environment around us has created a multitude of new, exciting employment opportunities.

Representing the biggest change to the workplace of the last 30 years, these green jobs come in many forms. From jobs in the renewables industry that never existed ten years ago, such as wave power engineers, to traditional trades, such as electricians and plumbers, that now provide services to green energy initiatives.

The Path is Green (tp:g) is a new initiative from Careers Scotland that aims to help you explore a wide range of green jobs and provide assistance to help you learn more about the skills and qualifications for getting started in your chosen career.

Green jobs give you the opportunity to develop your interest in the environment while still enjoying all the benefits of a diverse and interesting career including:

There has never been a more exciting time to be deciding what path your career will take. The Scottish Government has set a target to meet 50% of electricity demand from renewable sources by 2020. This is just part of the reason why in the next 10 to 15 years Scotland will see the creation of up to 50,000 green jobs – giving you an incredible range of choice for the type of career you would like to pursue.
