Scotland's main economic development agency, covering some 93% of Scotland's population. Funded by the Scottish Government, its mission is to:

• support and develop existing businesses
• help Scottish businesses develop a strong presence in the global economy
• help new businesses get underway

Highland & Islands Enterprise

Highland & Islands Enterprise has the same remit as Scottish Enterprise, but covering Northern Scotland and its islands, a traditional recruiting ground for the Merchant Navy where a career at sea is in the blood.

Careers Scotland

The Scottish Government agency that seeks to help people make informed choices about the career that suits them best. It encourages them to explore their own skills, achievements, interests, circumstances, health and welfare when choosing a job.

Scottish Enterprise has joined forces with Careers Scotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (SE and H&IE) to promote the exciting and worthwhile career opportunities in the maritime sector. The maritime industries are a significant and growing business sector in Scotland and rely for their continued success on the experience and skills of people who have served their time in command of commercial ships flying the UK flag around the world.
