Aberdeen's Future Financial Services Talent
College and university careers advisers, Careers Scotland staff and school teachers have been touring Aberdeen's Financial Services sector today (Friday 30 May 2008) to ensure career opportunities in the sector are highlighted and understood. This is the first tour of its kind to be run in Aberdeen.
The tour aims to demonstrate the importance of the Financial Services sector to Scotland's economy and what this means for the Aberdeen area. Successful Financial Services companies based in Aberdeen are being visited by careers advisors to increase their knowledge of each company, the careers it offers and the skills it requires.
This information and knowledge can then be passed on to potential employees and those wishing to enter the Financial Services sector.
Companies showcasing their career opportunities include Aberdeen Asset Management, Bell Lawrie, Royal Bank of Scotland, Clydesdale Bank and Central Insurance Group.
The event is one of a series being held across Scotland as part of the Global Financial Services Week (26-30 May 2008). Initiated by the Financial Services Advisory Board (FiSAB), Scotland's pioneering collaboration between the Scottish Government and the wider public sector, the trades unions, Universities Scotland and the financial services industry, the week aims to showcase the strength and depth of the industry in Scotland and to provide a forum for top level discussion about its future.
Organised by Scottish Enterprise, the tour included 35 attendees representing various careers advice routes.
Cathy Malone of Scottish Enterprise comments,
"Excellent career opportunities exist in Aberdeen's Financial Services sector and we're keen to get this message out to as many career advisors as possible. Having a good understanding of the sector, the key players and the potential career routes allows a positive relationship to develop between the companies and potential employees."
