10,000 Students Get Set for Scotland's Very First National Freshers' Festival
The Scotcampus Freshers’ Festival 2007 is set to be one of Scotland’s biggest and best events for students…ever! The enormous student affair will unveil some of Scotland’s hottest music acts, alongside a wealth of advice and information, free goodies and festival-style entertainment.
Open to school leavers, college and university students, the free event - expected to attract some 10,000 young people from across the UK and beyond - will be the very first national students fair in Scotland and will take place at Glasgow’s SECC on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 September.
Designed for young people to ‘preview’ student life in Scotland, the festival will be heaving with exciting (and free!) activities and entertainment; from exclusive film previews and DJ sets, to t-shirt printing and funky body art. Like some of the UK’s top music festivals, the Freshers’ Festival will also feature a roller disco and live music from some of Scotland’s hottest bands.
Model scouts, from top Scottish agency Superior Model Management, will be on hand to ensure that any ‘lookers’ will be snapped-up for a fabulous new modeling career. While, to keep energy levels soaring, visitors will be treated to tasty nibbles and refreshments from a selection of food and drink stalls - including sandwich, smoothie and sushi bars - and free pizza from Dominos. Attendees will also receive a stylish free cotton tote bag, jam packed with free goodies.
Graeme Barratt (27), event director and co-founder of Scotcampus (Scotland’s only national student publication), commented:
"We’re delighted to be hosting Scotland’s first ever national freshers’ fair. The event is going to be fantastic and a must-visit attraction for any school leaver or new student looking to learn more about student life in Scotland. Most importantly though, there’s going to be a real festival atmosphere and lots of fun to be had!"
He continued:
"Glasgow is home to a student population in excess of 160,000, the largest in Scotland and second largest in the UK, so it was the obvious choice of city for the event. Never before has there been an opportunity for Scotland’s students to come together under one roof, learn more about their future and – most importantly – have a great time. There will be something for everyone; from learning how to cook, to volunteering, partying and finding out about future job opportunities."
The festival will be a hugely informative affair for Scotland’s student population. Some of the exciting exhibitors will include: Young Scot, the Royal Navy, Transport Scotland, the Soundhaus, Ernst & Young, Bunker, Bamboo, Scottish Youth Hostel Association, Campus, The Men’s Store, Xscape (Braehead), PSYBT, the ABC, the Glasgow Club, Scottish Citylink, SPT, TV Licensing, Millers Art Shop, Odeon, Project Scotland and Scottish Executive’s ‘Fresh Talent’ scheme.
The event is free but students have to register online at the Scotcampus website to reserve their free place and goodie bag on arrival
