Charlene O’Connor, senior director of skills and learning, Scottish Enterprise, said:
“I would like to congratulate all the finalists on winning through to this stage of the Scottish Modern Apprenticeship Awards 2006. The standard of entry was again very high and in reaching the finalists stage, the apprentices and the organisations that support them, have already shown themselves to be among the most outstanding in the workforce."
“The Modern Apprenticeship programme is a great success story for Scotland. Apprentices make a real difference to the organisations that they work for - recent evaluation has shown that 70 per cent of businesses employing MAs saw improvements in their productivity. The outcomes of the programme are improving all the time and we compare very well with other parts of the UK in relation to performance and value for money. “
Alex Paterson, director of developing skills with Highlands and Islands Enterprise, said:
“Modern Apprenticeships are firmly established as an important part of the skills landscape in Scotland. They play a vital role by offering people the chance to work in a real job, earning a decent wage, while learning a skill and gaining a recognised qualification."
“Every year, we are impressed by the commitment, creativity and hard work put in by the apprentices. These awards are a way of saying well done to everyone who has taken part this year and especially to celebrate the standards of excellence achieved by the winners.”
