International Symposium on Career Development and Public Policy

This week, over 100 delegates from 30 countries will be attending the fourth biennial International Symposium on Career Development and Public Policy in Aviemore. The event, organised by Careers Scotland, is being held in the UK for the first time - from 22-25 October.

Building on previous International Symposia in Canada and Australia, the aims of the symposium are to:

  • Build closer dialogues between the career guidance service deliverers, researchers and policy-makers in education, lifelong learning, economic development and social inclusion;
  • Construct closer links between policy-making, research and practice in career development;
  • Focus on major current and emerging social, economic and technological issues which are likely to impact upon career development policies, strategies and operations; and
  • Learn from one another and from wider evidence base related to career development policies and practices.

The symposium will focus on five sub-themes. These are:

  1. Blending economic and social goals;
  2. Strategic leadership;
  3. Harnessing diversity;
  4. Impact evidence; and
  5. Role of the citizen.
