Transcript of School College Collaboration project 2
So here we are tonight at the Skills for Work award ceremony for pupils who have just completed their Skills for Work qualifications at Perth College.
What we hope tonight is that a number of parents will come along to support their children, we'll also have representatives from Perth College and we'll also have Careers Scotland because this is a partnership event. So it'll be great to see the pupils getting their awards and they'll get them in Motor Vehicle Skills, in Construction and also in Hairdressing.
The Principal of Perth College, Mandy Exley, gave a speech of welcome before the awards were presented to the young people by Katy Gordon of Careers Scotland.
Perth and Kinross Director of Education and Children's Services, John Fyffe, gave the vote of thanks.
"This is a strong collaboration that we've witnessed here tonight I'm talking to the young people here, between the College and Careers Scotland and indeed your own schools"
So why don't we find out the views of some people who came to the event tonight.
So here we've got Katie, who I think you have just achieved your Hairdressing Intermediate 1, is that right? "Yes" OK. So I've got a couple of questions for you. "That's fine" How did you feel about your course when you were doing it?
"I thought it was really good, things we were doing went a lot, I really liked it, it was fun."
And were there any things in particular that you really enjoyed?
"I liked shampooing and conditioning that was my favourite part of it and I liked putting hair up as well"
OK, and are you thinking about going into the same type of career?
"Well it's very similar I'm going to do the NQ in Beauty Therapy up at the same college Perth College, I'm going to start that in August."
OK, and how did you feel coming along to the event tonight, how did you feel when you were getting your certificate?
"Yeah it was really good, I felt proud that I had passed and achieved this course, yes it's really good."
OK, now let's turn to Katie's mum Angelina, "Hi there". Another question to you about how did you feel, what did you think when seeing Katie get her award tonight, how did you feel?
"I felt really proud of Katie to have such an achievement, to see her get her certificate and really just to see the confidence in her being able to come up and get her certificate and her smiling and having fun."
So have you really noticed a difference since she started the course?
"Her literacy has improved as well as she has had to do more writing and reading and she has made new friends, she's got more confidence and she's got a part-time job as well now which is great"
"Oh goodness, OK, thank you very much."
